The Japanese interior hides many places where you can completely lose yourself and just be fascinated by the mystical power of nature. As I finally reached this clearing, the sheer scale of the landscape opened up before me. The setting sun flooded the sky with a warm, hazy yellow, tracing the edges of what seemed like a hundred mountain ridges rolling into the distance. There was a sudden, pleasant quiet in the air as the day began to cool. I took this photograph to hold onto that exact feeling—the physical relief of the long journey, the golden light, and the absolute stillness of the high country at dusk.
